Small Nursery Touches Without a Whole-Room Makeover
Share
Sometimes a room has all the essentials but still feels as though something is missing. Perhaps there's a blank wall you keep looking at, a corner that feels unfinished, or a nursery that could use a little colour.
That doesn't mean you need new furniture, a fresh coat of paint or a matching set of everything. Our favourite approach is much simpler: choose one spot, add one piece you genuinely love, then see how the room feels.
Here are three ways to do it, depending on what your space needs. You don't need all three.
First, choose the spot, not the shopping list
Before browsing, take a quick photo of the room on your phone. Which area draws your eye for the wrong reason? An empty wall might need a focal point, while an already busy room might only need one softer detail.
Keep the furniture and colours you already like. Pick one colour from the room to repeat, and measure the space before choosing your piece. A little breathing room around a decoration helps it feel intentional rather than squeezed in.
For a plain wall: add texture with one wall hanging
If you like your room's colours but the walls feel bare, texture can be more useful than adding another colour. Beads and tassels give a flat wall a little detail without needing a whole gallery of pictures.
Our Boho Lotus Beaded Wall Hanging is $45, with Cream, Blue & Green and Rainbow options. Choose Cream if you want a quieter addition, or pick a colourway that echoes something already in the room.
Try this: choose one clear wall space, away from your baby's sleep area, and let the hanging be the feature. You don't need to buy several smaller decorations to fill every gap.
For a room that needs colour: try a line of rainbow bunting
Bunting works differently from a single wall hanging. Its long shape can bring a little colour across a plain wall without making the room feel like you've started a new theme.
Our Rainbow Bunting Garland is $45 and approximately 113cm long, with Blue, Purple and Orange options.
Try this: measure the wall first, then choose the colour that feels most at home with your existing bedding or artwork. Leave some clear space around it instead of adding more pieces straight away.
For an empty corner: choose a hanging feature
When floor space is precious, a hanging decoration can add interest without another piece of furniture. Look for a spot where you can appreciate it from the doorway or your usual seat in the room.
Our Boho Long Macramé Rainbow Baby Mobile is $55, approximately 92cm long and 23cm in diameter, with two colour combinations. Its hanging rainbows and tassels make it a focal point on its own.
Try this: check the full hanging length and mounting position before ordering. Leave the surrounding area simple so the mobile doesn't have to compete with several other decorations.
A quick note about placement
These are decorative pieces, not toys. Follow the product's installation instructions, secure decorations appropriately and keep hanging pieces, cords and small parts well out of children's reach. Keep cot and sleep spaces clear, and reassess placement as your child grows and becomes more mobile.
Start with one change and live with it
Take another photo after you've added your piece. Does the room feel more like yours? If it does, you can stop there. A nursery doesn't have to look like a showroom to feel warm and personal.
